How Secure is Your MultiValue System and Data?
You lock your car, your house, and your office but do you lock down your MultiValue system and your data? Having a green screen or a MultiValue application doesn’t necessarily mean you are protected. Even though we may be the best-kept secret, we are still susceptible to security incidents. Below are some of the ways to secure both your MultiValue application and your data in the cloud. This is merely an overview and we will go into more depth in future blogs.
Application Security
Who has access to your application and how are they accessing it? Telnet is not secure. One of the key advantages of SSH over telnet is that the server authenticates itself to the client before it collects credentials from the client. This prevents someone from accessing your application who shouldn’t be.
Here are some things you can do to lock down your application:
-
Whitelist only the IP addresses of the locations that are accessing the application.
-
Provide SSH keys to everyone who accesses the application. Anyone who does not have one will not be able to access the system.
- Use a VPN.
- Use YubiKeys if you want to be ultra secure. These require a physical key to authenticate the identity of the user.
Printing can be made secure from the cloud by using products such as CirrusPrint. CirrusPrint allows secure document transmission using SSL. In addition, it compresses the print jobs, which reduces bandwidth.
Data Security
Every flavor of PICK/MultiValue has some way of encrypting files and data. This should be done to protect any sensitive information that may be in your application.
At Pick Cloud, data is encrypted at rest and in transit automatically. We have access to a global team of more than 900 security experts who monitor the system 24 hours a day to detect and respond to attacks or issues.
How does Google secure your system and your data? You can see how Google does it here.
Even though Google may be protecting your data, no matter where it resides, your data is still yours.
Bottom Line
Hosting providers like Google spend top dollar to ensure their data is safe. They have the money and resources to pay for the best and highest level of security available – more so than an average SMB. By hosting your system with Pick Cloud, you can take advantage of the latest and greatest security software for a predictable monthly fee and at a fraction of the cost of paying for these security software/protocols on your own.
